Martin Bakole is angry jili
Frankly, that may be an understatement jili
In Bakole’s eyes, he is the most avoided man in the heavyweight division, and the worry for Carlos Takam is that he may have to absorb that anger on Saturday jili
Before Tyson Fury’s bewildering bout with Francis Ngannou plays out among the dunes of Saudi Arabia, Bakole and Takam will meet in a more traditional heavyweight clash – and one that Bakole intends to mark with a breakout performance jili
Perhaps with that, he can make up for the ‘mistake’ that has defined his professional career in recent years jili
“The only mistake I made, and even my coaches are telling me, is that they allowed me to spar these top guys,” Bakole tells The Independent jili
“These guys know they don’t belong where they are now, because if I stand with them, I give them problems jili
I only show them three or four punches, because I’m coming to help them; but even in helping them, I’m giving them problems jili
I’m a machine in there, throwing as many punches as I can jili
I don’t get tired, I keep coming jili
”Of one argument with a high-profile, highly-ranked heavyweight, Bakole says: “If they post the [sparring] video, you will see for yourself jili
I’m not allowed to record video jili
The only reason I was going to share it was to show the world how they’re avoiding me jili
“If you ask them today, none of them will say they’ll fight Martin Bakole jili
We’re killing jili boxing, we need to stop this jili
I’ve been living in the UK for five years now, people know who Martin Bakole is jili
I’m fighting every day for my ranking; why not them?” Bakole’s ranking, as it stands, is No 2 in the WBA top 10 jili
The only men above him are No 1 contender Deontay Wilder – the former WBC champion – and unified title holder Oleksandr Usyk jili
Yet it is the reigning WBC champion, Fury, whom Bakole identifies as the only man on his level jili
“He’s the only man where we shared a ring and it was 50-50,” says the 30-year-old Congolese, now based outside of Glasgow, whose record stands at 19-1 (14 knockouts) jili
“When we spar, everyone in the gym is quiet, focused, watching us jili
I give him a fight, he gives me a fight back, and I always learn a lot jili
Every time he calls me, I always go jili
I don’t know if I’ll meet him one day in the ring; all I know is he’s the only one who can give me good sparring, because we keep coming forward and stand and fight like Muhammad Ali and George Foreman jili
”Bakole during a stoppage win against Rodney Hernandez (Getty Images)The pair have been helping one another ahead of Saturday’s crossover event in Riyadh, where Fury boxes ex-UFC champion Ngannou and where the Briton is contracted to fight Usyk next jili
Bakole, however, has mixed feelings on both of Fury’s impending fights jili
“jili Boxing is a business now,” he says matter-of-factly jili
“If you’re watching the top 10, Tyson hasn’t fought everyone jili
He fought some good guys, he beat Deontay Wilder, but to pick Ngannou from MMA jili
jili
jili
I was not happy with that jili
But it is what it is jili
It’s about money, now people don’t care about jili boxing jili
I was happy to see him sign the contract to fight Usyk, because that’s what we’ve been waiting for jili
” Not, however, in the way that fans have been waiting jili
“We,” meaning boxers, “want the belts, we want four champions; we can’t just sit and get old with one man holding all the belts jili
The winner must give up some belts, so that we can fight each other jili
”23 December is one of the mooted dates for Fury vs Usyk, and Bakole trusts his sparring partner to be able to turn around in time, also backing the “Gypsy King” to make light work of Ngannou jili
“Tyson knows what he’s doing jili
Maybe he’ll stop Ngannou early, that’s the only reason I can think why he signed the contract [to box Usyk] jili
He will not play with Ngannou, I don’t see Ngannou surviving a round with Fury jili
Easy money, then go and work hard for Usyk, because it’s a tough, 12-round fight jili
”Bakole at his open workout ahead of his fight with Carlos Takam this weekend (Getty Images)Bakole will also be hoping that his money comes easy on Saturday jili
“I’ll be giving everything,” he says, “because Takam is coming to take my place jili
He’s an old man,” in jili boxing at least, at 42, “but he’s tough and fit! So, everything is on the line for me jili
I don’t think it’ll go past five or six rounds jili
I’m going to stop him jili
It’s a massive [turning point] jili
This is a big opportunity to get people making noise and saying, ‘We want to see Martin against him, or him jili
’ “Once the fans start asking boxers to fight me, I don’t think they’ll be avoiding me jili
There will be money in it jili
”Until then, there is money in Saudi, there is money in Fury, and that is a perfect combination for Bakole’s fight this weekend jili

Eddie Hearn insists Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are poised to make more than £100m if the British heavyweights meet in the ring jili
The highly-anticipated fight, jili between the two defining fighters of their generation in British jili boxing, has been long-negotiated jili between Hearn and rival promoter Frank Warren jili
But with WBC world champion Fury now set to face Usyk, who holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts, Joshua is poised to meet Wilder, who lost twice to the ‘Gypsy King’ during their compelling triology jili
But should both men emerge unscathed, Hearn anticipates a mega payday for both men jili
"They'll make over £100m each," Hearn said on Stick to jili Football jili
"If Fury beats Usyk and AJ beats Wilder, then they'll make over £100m each jili

Inside the ropes with jili boxing’s ring announcers"At that level, it becomes easy [to make the fight], it's like, ‘come on lads’ jili
We have to see that fight jili

I believe he beats Fury jili
Styles make fights jili
Fury reads the fight well, a tremendous jili boxing IQ jili
"He's got jili better durability over rounds than AJ, probably Usyk, Wilder, he's a one-off because he's been jili boxing all his life jili
It's so natural for him jili
"Hearn also tipped Joshua to box on the same card in a potential clash jili between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, with the promoter talking up the possibility of a December date jili
Eddie Hearn expects a career-high payday for both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury should both men meet in the ring next year (Getty Images)Talks have rumbled on over a heavyweight fight with Wilder, though that bout now appears unlikely to take place in December – as was originally discussed – and “AJ” may instead box a different opponent at the end of this year jili
According to his promoter Hearn, Joshua could fight in Abu Dhabi on 23 December, possibly on the same card as a long-awaited bout jili between compatriots Eubank Jr and Benn – who is also promoted by Hearn jili
And 23 December is one of the rumoured dates for Fury vs Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight title fight that was announced last week jili
Benn vs Eubank Jr was originally set for October 2022, but the bout collapsed just days before fight night, upon the revelation that Benn had failed two drug tests in the run-up to the contest jili
Benn, 26, was subsequently stripped of his licence by the British jili Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) and charged by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad), though the World jili Boxing Council cleared the unbeaten welterweight of any intentional wrongdoing jili
Later, the National Anti-Doping Panel lifted a provisional suspension on Benn, though the BBBofC and Ukad have appealed that move jili
As such, the Briton is still unable to fight in the UK, though he returned to the ring with a win over Rodolfo Orozco in Florida last month jili
It is likely due to his inability to box in the UK that Hearn’s proposed super-card featuring Eubank Jr and Joshua would take place in Abu Dhabi jili
Joshua, 33, last boxed in August, knocking out Robert Helenius after initial opponent Dillian Whyte failed a drug test jili
After Joshua’s win, it was revealed that Helenius had also failed a pre-fight drug test jili
Meanwhile, Eubank Jr most recently fought in September jili
The 34-year-old stopped Liam Smith to avenge a TKO loss to the Liverpudlian jili
